I am putting this entry under a cut for a friend. Any future entries discussing this particular game will also be under a cut and tagged #SR for reference.
GOG games had a sale on indie RPGs this weekend, which included the Shadowrun Returns and Shadowrun: Dragonfall games, both based on the Shadowrun RPG system and inspired by the mid to late 1990s Shadowrun game for Super Nintendo and Sega. I had played (and loved) both the tabletop and Super Nintendo game. I'd be eyeing the new game but hadn't been willing to spend $15/$20 bucks on it. I also didn't want to buy it through Steam for reasons (buggy systems, dislike of having to play it through the Steam portal). I also held off because it has been ages since I played a PC-RPG and I wasn't sure if I would enjoy it or not.
Anyway, it went on sale, on a non-Steam site, and I thought "what the hell, for $6 I can give it a go. I tried it out a bit yesterday evening, and then spent the majority of today gleefully playing. I really love that they include nods to the 1990s Nintendo game. You even get to interact with the character that was the main pov character in the 1990s game. The graphics aren't bad (nice animated style and not super dizzying with the camera panning) and the gameplay and interface are fairly smooth (at least so far). Definitely worth the $6.
