Every silver lining's got a touch of grey

So I found out today that I am getting a much needed raise, which should (touch wood) ease some of my financial worries. And this was very happy making news, but I lacked the energy for much more than a profound thank you to my boss. Largely because my mouth freaking hurts, and while I'm good at tuning out pain to a certain degree it is still tiring.

I noticed a sore spot on my gums on Sunday, possibly a canker sore or a piece of food got up under my lower denture plate and caused some irritation. I take my dentures out at night, so usually if it is the latter issue my gums have a chance to heal and the irritant gets washed out of the dentures. So this is probably a canker sore (I had several wicked cold sores develop on the same side of my mouth last week). It was a little worse on Monday, but I could still wear my lower dentures without too much pain. Unfortunately yesterday it got worse, to the point where I had to take the lower denture out at work, which I usually try to avoid. I have called and made an appointment with the dentist, but they can't fit me in til Monday morning. In the meantime, I've stocked up on soft food, bought some antiseptic mouthwash, and am leaving the lower dentures out til the gums heal back up. The sore that I could visibly see last night has improved a bit today, and the pain is not as bad. But it still hurts.

So needless to say, I'm tired and a bit grumpy and it was hard to show excitement over the raise. And now my brain weasels are trying to tell me that I didn't show the appropriate level of appreciation and that it will come back and bite me on the ass. Which is silly because my boss and co-workers are aware that I am having mouth issues, and because they are giving me a raise because I deserve one and have earned it, not because they wanted effusive praise. So I am happy and thankful, but will likely be more happy and thankful when I am not exhausted and in pain.

Yay for the raise and boo for the sore. I'm sure if you give your boss a thank you card for the raise or something like that, it won't come back to bite you in the butt.

Yay for getting a raise, you absolutely deserve it! And don't believe the brain weasels, it's difficult to be enthusiastic about anything when you're fighting against pain of any sort, especially something that's difficult to ignore and affects nearly everything you do, like a damn canker sore. I've had trouble with those all of my life and I know that sometimes you can't even swallow saliva without pain. I hope the blasted thing heals quickly so you can get on with things without the pain.

Thank you! ::hugs:: Thankfully the canker sore is fully healed (and it was definitely a canker sore, along with a couple of sores caused by the lower plates rubbing, but the main sore was a big blister like thing that did thankfully heal quickly once I left the plates out). So glad to hear that things are better! Things are okay hereabouts, other than the typical first world type problems. I managed to crack my laptop screen, but have finally set up a temporary replacement until I can get the system backed up and either mail it off to be repaired or make a road trip of it.
