So my Dad is doing relatively well for now and they (he and my Uncle) have been able to travel back to Spokane. They should be home by tonight. I will be flying into Spokane on Tuesday as I wanted to give Dad a few days to get settled, and he has doctor's appointments all day on Monday.

Apparently airlines will not just offer slight discounts on bereavement fares, but will also add notes to your ticket that enable you to call and reschedule your return flight without penalty fees. So that's good. I will have to leave at the butt-crack of dawn on Tuesday, but I can sleep on the plane.

Today is one of those days where the full reality of the situation short-circuited my brain a bit. To be expected. Yesterday I did most of my packing and put together a batch of pictures to take. I will spend time scanning the pictures tomorrow so I can share them with others online. There will probably be many stories and memories shared in the coming days/months as I process by writing.

The other way I process is by reading and research. In between fluff I've been reading The Pagan Book of Living and Dying by Starhawk which amazingly enough I already had on my bookshelf. I also have Entering the Summerland by Edain McCoy which is next on my to read list. My father and I share a similar belief system and I am hoping that I can find material that will not just help me but will also help my father.

*hugs* Oh, goodness. I'm glad you have your flight booked and that the airline was decent about it.

So very glad to hear that your Dad is going to be in Spokane so that family can be around him regularly. Also, if you don't mind a suggestion, you might pick up a voice recorder (or just use your computer) to record conversations with your dad, as well as any stories and/or anecdotes he might want to share. It would also be good for him to have something there if he wants to make recordings he wants people to hear later, as he may not feel completely comfortable speaking about some things with people in the room. It would also be nice to keep your Dad's stories and his voice around for future grandkids and such. I only wish I had thought of such things a long time ago before my Dad and Grandparents passed.

Star Hawk's books are wonderful and I'm glad that you and your Dad share a spiritual outlook so that you can comfort each other.

Safe journeys to you and a peaceful journey to your father. I'll be keeping you both in my thoughts. *sending supportive thoughts and vibes your and his way*

Thank goodness for the kindness of airline customer service agents. I hope the trip goes well. My thoughts are with you and your family.

I found Starhawk's book a comfort after the sudden death of a friend. I hope it proves the same for you and your dad.
