So here are additional lists that will help you get to know me a little better. It's really hard to limit the lists to 10, btw. These are a mix of favorites and things that had a great impact on me. Generally I love things because they impacted me greatly, but some things are one offs in a way. For example, the movie "Like Water For Chocolate" is beautiful and well done, and it had a huge impact on me because it affirmed much of my own experience. It is also a movie I would never watch a second time precisely because it hit far too close to home.

Date: 2014-05-20 02:57 pm (UTC)I also think I was just the right age and had just the right background when I originally read Carroll. I must have been ten or eleven. I knew the basic of the story not only from the Disney movie, but from a Windham Classics video game where you got to play Alice. By the time I got around to reading the book I already loved the characters and was able to overcome some of the writing things that would have put me off.
I find sometimes class books are a bit like fandom for me. Sometimes I become familiar with the basic memes and story tropes of a fandom long before I see or engage the source material. I have even had the experience of being disappointed by source material after being introduced to the amazing fanworks available.
