Today kicked my butt. I kicked it right back, but man am I worn out. I had my routine eye exam this morning at 8:45. This went well, though I had a headache by the time it was done. Have lots of bright lights shone into your eyes, plus not so fun spot the flickering box tests do not help one recovering from a migraine. My migraine from yesterday was gone, but my head still felt tender and the light sensitivity tends to remain for a day or two. So I was definitely wincing a bit by the time I left. My prescription had only changed slightly, but one of my lenses is badly scratched. So I figured I might as well update to the new prescription and fix the lenses at the same time. Of course as I said this I realized something important. If I left these glasses there so the lenses could be updated, I would be without glasses for a week or two. The prescription in my older pair of glasses is so outdated I get dizzy wearing them. So while I was there I picked out an additional frame to use as a back-up/alternate pair of glasses. I will continue to wear the ones with the scratched lens until those are ready and then I will leave my current ones for repair.

After this adventure I came home and had a bit of lunch. Then it was off to run a quick errand before my afternoon doctor's appointment with my PCP for my yearly physical. That appointment went a bit longer than I had planned. When I left I still needed to stop at the pharmacy to pick up meds, and run into the grocery store to grab a few quick things, but I also needed to head straight back to my tiny village if I wanted to make my afternoon class and only be a little late. Of course that would mean driving the 20 minutes or so back to the larger town to pick up meds and groceries after class. Today's class wasn't a crucial one and was mostly review of what we had already covered. So I decided to just go ahead and finish my errands.

While I was already in town and no longer in a hurry, I decided to stop in at the Verizon store. My old sturdy Samsung flip phone was starting to show it's age. The mp3 player and camera no longer worked. It would make calls and texts, and I don't actually make too many of either. So I probably could have gotten it to last another year or so if I needed to. However my dad mentioned to me that he would not be using his phone update this year since his brother gave him his old Droid X. He also pointed out that my phone was due for an upgrade as well. Turns out you can "borrow" upgrades from other phones on an account and combine them (at least if I understood the sales lady's explanation correctly). After talking it over with my dad (who has been kind enough to continue to cover my phone while I am in school), we agreed that it would be okay for me to upgrade to a smart phone. I decided on the Droid Razr HD as it has a longer battery life than the Droid Razr Mini and is reputed to be a good, reliable phone. My dad insisted that I was to pick the one I wanted and have it billed to the account. So I told him I considered it my birthday present.

It was after 5:00 by the time I got home. I managed to make a bite to eat, unpack and put away things, and get a little bit further ahead on my reading for tomorrow's classes. Then I hit my wall. I will do my best to get the [community profile] poetree Climbing the Poet's Tree Challenge up tomorrow. Right now I am going to let my meds kick in and go to bed. I am a very sleepy Manda indeed.

Eye exams really are the pits! Even if you don't have a migraine, having your pupils dilated and then having an extremely bright light shined into them will likely trigger one.

Yays for getting a smart phone! They truly are handy and I use mine for keeping track of appointments, as well as keeping notes of things I need to do or get. Please post about your Droid after you've had it for a while! The last Motorolla I had dropped calls and the battery went kerflooey within 3 months, but that was some years ago and I'm curious to see if they've gotten better.

Also, Happy Birthday!
