Love affair with words
Aug. 22nd, 2011 06:50 amMy love affair with words began at a very early age when my dad pulled out my brother’s much loved copy of “Fox in Socks” by Dr. Seuss. My fascination grew with every word. To this day I am intrigued by how words may be combined in ways that not only paint images in our mindscape, stories unfolding with each sentence, but that they can create rhythm and music all on their own. I understood words’ power long before I learned the terms alliteration, assonance, onomatopoeia, and meter. Since my first introduction to reading I have devoured the written word, delighted in singing and reading out loud, and dallied in wordsmithing. This week I get to share my love of words, specifically in the form of poetry, over at
poetry. It is a fun community that celebrates favorite works of published poetry. I will be posting at least five poems over the course of this week as this week’s host. Feel free to come participate. Comment on my entries or post your own favorite poem.
