Happy Valentine's Day

While Valentine's is a holiday that I largely ignore (save for maybe buying discounted chocolate on the 15th), I ended up participating in a small fic exchange for the holiday this year. And let me tell you, that is a very nice way to celebrate the holiday.

The fic was done through the Steter Network's discord group, so it's Teen Wolf with Stiles/Peter as the pairing. I'll post the link below.

Other than writing, life is mostly quiet for me at the moment. I'm working from home and having groceries and such delivered because I figure it's better safe than sorry when one has a truly shitty immune system. I am incredibly thankful to have Discord and my various fandom groups as well as Dreamwidth since my online communities have been keeping me from feeling too isolated and alone.

Really glad to hear that things are going well IRL, despite the damn pandemic dragging on. I don't blame you in the very least for having as little contact with people as possible right now, what with the UK variant being on the loose and heaven knows where it will show up next. Even if you don't have a compromised immune system, too many people are having serious long term effects from the virus long after they've beaten it. I hope you continue to stay safe and well and can get the vaccine soon due to your compromised immune system and health issues.

Also, I did read your fic and very much enjoyed it despite not having watched Teen Wolf. It sounds like the series is rife with angst and betrayal, so I doubt I'll watch the series, but I definitely enjoyed this fic. Thank you!

I got into the fandom via fic and stayed because I fell in love with Stiles and the Hales. I've recently started watching the series with a friend, and, quite honestly, watching it with someone to bitch to is the only way to watch it. I'd have noped out long ago, but some of the actors do such a great job despite the scripts being less than stellar. Dylan O'Brien, who plays Stiles, is incredibly captivating on-screen as are Tyler Hoechlin, Ian Bohen, JR Bourne, and many others. But the writing is terribly inconsistent and it's very much a teen drama. It doesn't help that I find the supposed lead to be...well self-righteous and oblivious to the needs of others are probably the nicest things I could say. But the other characters are compelling and watching the show has given me way too many plot bunnies. The sheer fuckery of canon (they aren't even consistent with ages and birthdays and never address why a bunch of high school sophomores would be driving before they were old enough to do so) leaves a lot of room for interpretation and lets writers have a lot of fun trying to unfuck canon. This is probably why it's been my main fandom for about five years now. 🤣

That's a lot to say that I'm glad you read and enjoyed the fic despite not having seen the show. And to say that you're probably wise to not watch it. lol

Nope, nope, I don't know where you're coming from about fuckwitted scriptwriters at all. *snort* Yeah, seriously, I sometimes think we watch a whole lot of tv series and movie franchises despite the damned writing, not because of it! If it wasn't for the chemistry between all of the actors I'd have never watched any of the Stargate tv franchise beyond a few episodes, most especially Stargate Atlantis!

Omg, that is so true. Fuckwitted screenwriters have come close to ruining fandoms for me. There are definitely times I've kept watching despite the writers and showrunners. I'm still salty about parts of the MCU. lol

I'm so thankful for fanfic though. We can take the parts we love, ignore the parts that we hate or make no sense, and fix the rest.

I think MCU is one of the franchises many of us are still incredibly salty about. Fix-its and crossovers are two of my all-time favorite things. lol
