[personal profile] jjhunter has asked me to be a co-moderator for the [community profile] poetree community. I was honored and happy to help out with a community that I am enjoying so much. Right now my goal is to get the weekly round-ups caught up. So without further ado here is the round-up for the week of January 29-February 4, which was hosted by the lovely and talented [personal profile] rbarenblat. She offers some fascinating meta and commentary and a selection of truly lovely poems.

Poetry host [personal profile] rbarenblat's posts and associated poems:

On weekly poems, scripture, inspiration
-intro post
-meta (see post title)
-poem: "Enough"

On poetry, Judaism, and being (or not being) a "religious poet"
-meta (see post title)
-poem: "Morning Practice"

On poetry teachers, favorite poems, and why we love poetry
-meta (see post title)
-poem: "An Horatian Notion" by Thomas Lux

Highlights from the Comments:

"Enough" brought to mind [personal profile] syntaxofthings's brothers upcoming bar mitzvah.

A great conversation between [personal profile] ysabetwordsmith and [personal profile] rbarenblat on Pagan and Jewish themed poetry.

[personal profile] yossi was reminded of zir own experience wrapping tefillin.

From [personal profile] syntaxofthings:

I'm rather new to "religious" poetry (or maybe I'm not, if I consider my favorite author, Madeleine L'Engle, whose works are to me a combination of prose and poetry and always speak to spirituality), so just finding it, and people who are attempting to express their spiritual experiences through poetry instead of spouting do's and do not's, is like a light bulb going off. "Oh. This is what it's like to be religious?" It's pretty wonderful.

Thank you.
