Update--Help Heather Find Safe Housing (Signal Boosting still appreciated)

There are two days left in our microfundraiser. So far we have raised 22% of our goal. Huge thank yous and loads of hugs go out to everyone who has donated or signal boosted. I cannot express how much it is appreciated.

Heather is doing a bit better. Her upstairs neighbors who were killing her with their pot and meth smoke have been evicted. So she is able to sleep in her apartment again for now. We are still trying to find her a better living space though as she should not have to worry about how to control her neighbors and be in constant fear of similar behaviors.

If you have looked at Heather's blog you may have noticed a few things that made you wonder about this whole fundraiser. For instance, Heather has a subtitle that reads "Any similarities between persons living or dead and my blog characters are purely coincidental. This blog is complete fiction." This is Heather's sense of humor and a reaction to her frustration with responses she has gotten. She really does exist and her blogs reflect her situation.

You also may have noticed that she mentions the fundraiser and states that she has not yet met me. This is true. I've haven't met her in person. How do I know she is a real person and is really in crisis? Why do I call her a friend if I haven't met her? The answer to these two questions are intertwined.

I found Heather's blog through my friend Paganaidd, who happens to be one of my dearest friends and someone that I consider an older sister. I have known her for well over ten years now and have lived with her and her family in the past. She is an immensely practical person, an EMT, smart, and compassionate. I am very thankful and lucky to have her in my life. She knows I share many of her spiritual/religious views and shared Heather's blog with me because she knew that Heather's discussions of animism would interest me. She herself has become good friends with Heather. Heather has been housebound for two years and so hasn't met anyone in person. However, Heather and Paganaidd frequently talk on the phone. I empathize greatly with Heather's experience, but have not contacted her often on her blog because I am often at a loss of what to say. It may not appear it from my blog, but I frequently suffer from social anxiety and and commenting on others posts (especially when outside of the dreamwidth community which has come to feel very safe and comfortable for me) often makes me anxious. I have wondered how to help and have talked with Paganaidd about what we could do to help. I feel like I have come to know Heather through her blog and through Paganaidd and therefore consider her a friend.

You may want to help but not be able to right now. Heather has many things that she needs and there are other ways to help her out, including purchasing items from her Amazon Universal Wishlist. She has a post here about some of the things she needs.

I think this covers most of the questions/concerns that I could think of. If there is something else you would like to know feel free to message or email me (amanda [dot] cimorene [dot] lee [at] gmail [dot] com).

Signal boosting is still appreciated! Thanks so much everyone!
